How to read your cost per mile
How is cost per mile calculated?
Add up everything the truck costs in a month (payments, insurance, permits, fuel, maintenance, tolls and driver pay) and divide by every mile it ran, loaded and empty. The calculator uses only your numbers; it doesn’t fill in industry averages.
Why separate fixed and variable costs?
Fixed costs are paid even if the truck sits; variable costs grow with every mile. If the fixed share is high, running more loaded miles lowers your cost per mile more than any fuel discount.
Why does the cost per loaded mile matter?
Because you usually get paid only for loaded miles. Deadhead has to be covered by the rate of the loaded ones.
Do you keep my numbers?
Not unless you ask for the report. The calculation runs in your browser; only if you press “Get my report” are your numbers and contact details sent to us.
